Moving on up day!

Today is moving day as we will be moving from our lovely hotel (see picture below) to a one bedroom apartment. This will be nice as it will give us access to the internet and also a kitchen.

We got picked up a little early this morning as Oleg had to take Kelly to the airport for her journey to Almaty. This was good for us as it allowed us to spend from 9:45 am to 1:00 pm with Megan. She was waiting for us as we got to her room ready to play. We spent the next 1/2 hour playing. She loves the rattles that we brought her along with a mirror. However she is more interested in banging the rattles on the mirror rather than looking at herself. We got to give her the morning bottle. She gulps this down in record time. See below for a picture of her bottle. Not your typical US bottle as nipple is huge and the bottle is glass. We then played for a little while and then she crashed in my arms for her nap. This morning was a long one - 45 minutes. She then awoke and soon after this we had to leave. :-(

Kazakhstan mandates that adoptive parents visit with the child for 14 days, after that they can petition for a court date which is usually held a couple of days later. If court is successful, the child then leave the hospital and stays with the parent for 15 days. This is the waiting period where the judge can change their mind. After the 15 days are up, the adoption is granted and the parents have full custody of the child. The last part of the journey is going to Almaty to get passport, visa and medical examination for the child. After being in Almaty for a couple of days the parents then can fly home. We are scheduled to be home in late January.

After our visit we went back to the hotel to collect our luggage and some lunch. We then proceeded to move into our 4th floor apartment with our many pieces of luggage. No elevators in our apartment building. Outside of building and hallway is kind of scary, but the apartment itself is fairly nice. We will post photos of this at a later time.

It is now 7:40 pm and we are struggling to stay awake. Spaceballs on DVD is not even keeping us entertained. Not sure yet what the midnight DVD will be. Good night and we will leave you with a couple of pictures of our hotel and Megan.

what an adventure you are on. megan is beautiful - i love how her fingers are intertwined while she sleeps. regarding jet lag - did you bring any melatonin? i should have mentioned it before you left. you take it when you want to go to sleep until you are on schedule. tylenol pm also works. you should adjust in a few more days.

Hello Steve and Amy! I am so glad that Candy shared your site with me (and many others at the hospital). We are all very excited to check on you and your new daughter. Some of your stories brought tears to my eyes! We love the pictures too. It is really interesting to hear about the culture you are staying in. Please keep us posted!

She is beautiful. The picture of her sleeping is priceless. Isn't it great to hold her in your arms?! You make a nice looking family! Can't wait to meet her in person!
Love,
Rachel

Sounds like you have had quite a week. It is good to hear you had a good (?) and safe trip. Megan is sure a cutie. She looks healthy and it sounds like she is in good spirits. The pictures and updates are great. Keep them coming.

BTW, can you bring one of those bottles home just as a "keepsake"...that is the LARGEST bottle/nipple i've ever seen... and to think it's GLASS!
